Accessibility Statement

This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the standard most widely used to judge whether websites work for people with disabilities.

How the site supports access

  • Structure. Every page has a single title, headings in order, labelled regions and a “Skip to content” link, so screen reader and keyboard users can move through it quickly.
  • Keyboard. Menus, the contents drawer, citation previews and comments work with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline. Escape closes any open panel or preview.
  • Contrast. Text and controls meet WCAG AA contrast in both the light and dark themes. Code colours are adjusted automatically when the site is built so that every token stays readable.
  • Zoom and small screens. Text can be enlarged to 200 percent, and pages reflow to a single column on narrow screens. Wide tables scroll inside their own frame, which can be reached and scrolled with the keyboard, and can be opened full size.
  • Citations. Each citation number has a spoken name, such as “Reference 3,” and points screen readers to the full reference. Previews open on hover, tap or keyboard focus.
  • Images and tables. Images carry text alternatives, and data tables have header rows.
  • Motion and theme. Animations are reduced when your device asks for reduced motion. The theme follows your device setting, and you can choose light or dark.

Testing

The site was checked in October 2026 with the axe-core automated accessibility engine, by keyboard-only use, and at desktop, tablet and phone sizes in both themes. Testing with the NVDA and VoiceOver screen readers is planned. This statement will be updated after each review.

Known limitations

  • Comments are provided by giscus and GitHub in an embedded frame, so their accessibility depends on those services. You can also read and join each discussion directly on GitHub.
  • The PDF edition will be checked for tags, reading order and text alternatives before release. Until then, the web edition is the accessible format.
  • Linked websites and cited documents are outside this site’s control.
